POKOTABI / cafe origi
cafe origi
Located in Sasayacho, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, cafe origi serves piping-hot ketchup Napolitan finished with olive oil, kinako kuromitsu soft-serve ice cream, and homemade lemon cheesecake.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tucked into a quiet residential pocket of Sasayacho in Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward, cafe origi occupies a tranquil setting that preserves the gentle atmosphere of a traditional kyo-machiya townhouse. Diners can step directly onto the wooden floorboards without removing their shoes, settling into counter seating or tables overlooking an interior courtyard garden where time seems to slow down.
The centerpiece of the savory menu is Napolitan spaghetti, prepared to order with olive oil. The lightly reduced, sweet and tangy ketchup sauce thoroughly coats each strand of pasta, pairing with the savory richness of sausage for a comforting, deeply satisfying plate. For a lighter bite, the menu also offers a double-cheese ham toast layered with 2 types of sliced cheese: mozzarella and cheddar.
For an afternoon break or an after-meal sweet, the cafe's rich, creamy milk soft-serve ice cream takes center stage. Options range from a dessert cup combining roasted black sesame kinako and thick kuromitsu black sugar syrup to an affogato doused with hot espresso, alongside a matcha moss-ball parfait layered with Kyoto Uji matcha ice cream, astringent-skin chestnut, and chewy shiratama rice dumplings. The house-made lemon cheesecake, known for its smooth texture and refreshing citrus tang, is served as part of a set paired with a drink or soft-serve cup rather than as a standalone order.
The drink menu reflects equal care. Coffee selections include the medium-roast Circus Blend, an approachable Colombian base with well-rounded richness, and the Barista Blend, an extra-dark roast inspired by the deep body of southern French espresso. Herbal infusions include Ameharashi, a caffeine-free house blend combining roasted black soybeans, corn, and lemon balm, complemented by hot manuka honey lemon and various floats for an unhurried, comfortable stay.
